A benefit concert for Gaza #
Local musicians Alick Mac, Sum Her Sum Her, and Anthony Shackell – along with the Comox Valley Fundraising Community and Weird Church – invite you to a second benefit concert for Gaza.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 19TH 6:45 PM Weird Church, 2688 Penrith Avenue in Cumberland, Cumberland BC
The second of its kind, this benefit concert will help directly support six extended families trying to survive a genocide. Featuring:
- Sum Her Sum Her: Hailing from Courtenay, B.C. Canada, vocal powerhouse Tamaya Hinke and guitar phenom Avery Cardinal have been putting in the work for years. Recently joined by Colin Ritchie on drums and Damien Saint Plancant on bass, they are poised to fill a niche in a town where every other band plays all the same old rock and roll songs. Playing new and current hits, Sum Her Sum Her are promised to be your new favourite band.
- Anthony Shackell: Anthony is a singer songwriter from Comox, BC, focusing on stripped back musical arrangements and lyrics that reflect emotion. Pulling from an extended list of musical influences, Anthony writes music from a melting pot of experience, aiming to engage with the audience through heartfelt lyrics, meaningful melody, and harmony that draws listeners in. instagram.com/anthonyshackell facebook.com/anthonyshackellmusic
- Alick Mac: A rapper, singer and songwriter based in Comox. His style is defined by his honest, vulnerable lyricism, evidenced by his track “Easier to Shout” which tackles masculinity. Alick finished runner up in the 2024 Music in Motion award before winning the 2025 Zattzoo Project Battle of the Bands in Port Alberni. instagram.com/alickmac facebook.com/alickmacmusic
After over 700 days of genocide in Gaza, the need for support is greater than ever. While the original concert, Songs for Ibrahem, held at the Weird Church November 2024, was set to raise funds for Ibrahem Hassan, a father of four who was the sole provider for his family in Gaza, after his wife was medically evacuated to Egypt, Songs for Ibrahem 2 will help support multiple Palestinian families, both in Gaza and Egypt. Even with the safety that Egypt provides, life is still not easy for those who have sought refuge. Unable to work, they still need support to pay rent, buy food, medical bills, as well as continuing to send support to the family members still in Gaza.
When asked why putting on a second concert was so important Alick Mac replied “I wanted to put on this concert because it felt like it is a positive way to get the community together in support of Gaza. It’s a helpless feeling watching an entire population starve to death, and this event offers an opportunity to take action and raise awareness.”
We are fast approaching the two-year mark of the Genocide on Gaza. With and estimate1 of over 93,000 people killed, 100,000 injured, and 21,000 children with disabilities caused by the “war” in Gaza since October 2023, as well as 1.9 million displaced (90% of the remaining population) it is so important to keep amplifying our voices, and to call for and end to the Genocide.
Join us on September 19th to support local artists, listen to amazing music, and help the people of Gaza. Admission is by donation with 100% of the profits being used for direct aid. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Weird Church is wheelchair accessible. This event is all ages.
