On Monday, July 7th, Comox Valley residents gathered at @weird_church in Cumberland to hear local educator Bernadette Keenan share her experiences supporting Gazan refugees in Cairo.
Keenan, who moved to Cairo in 2023, arrived with donations from the Valley for Network for Palestine and the Meera Centre, which provides therapy and support to displaced families. She formed a close bond with Maysaa, a young mother who escaped Gaza with her daughters but left her husband and relatives behind.
During her talk, Keenan highlighted the struggles of Palestinians rebuilding lives under trauma, while Comox Valley donors offered vital financial and emotional support. All proceeds from the event went directly to the Meera Centre and Maysaa’s family.
